This year, Filipino-American model Kelsey Merritt will become the first Filipina to walk at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. The model shared the exciting news about her booking the job last weekend after a series of castings.
After the announcement, many congratulated Kelsey for her achievement. However, her being cast in the show also led to discussions about her Eurocentric features not being representative of most Filipinas.
In response, some defended the Fil-Am model and made their own points regarding representation.
Shortly after, the model herself eventually jumped in the discussion, writing a tweet almost entirely in Tagalog. she starts by clarifying her Filipino roots and noting that she was born in the Philippines and raised in Pampanga. She then adds that she finished her schooling in Manila before moving to the United States. "I love my country and I'm proud of where I came from," she ends her tweet.
