This is not a drill: The much-awaited Friends reunion is really happening!
Stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer are reportedly set to reunite on-screen in May 2020 since the iconic series ended its run in 2004. The reunion special will be released on HBO Max, a streaming service that’s also expected to launch in the same month.
“Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together—we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire ‘Friends’ library,” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer at HBO Max, in a statement published by Variety. “I became aware of ‘Friends’ when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends—and audiences—gathered together in real time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans.”
Meanwhile, the cast also excitedly announced the big news on their Instagram accounts, including everyone’s beloved Rachel Green, Monica Geller, Phoebe Buffay, Chandler Bing, Joey Tribbiani, and Ross Geller. “It’s happening,” they each captioned their individual posts.
Rumors about the Friends reunion was first reported back in November 2019. Jennifer was also quoted telling Ellen DeGeneres in June that the original stars were all game for a reunion should it happen.
