We don't know about you, but Vogue Hong Kong’s December cover girl and full-time fur mom, Song Hye Kyo, sharing the spotlight with two of her Bichon Frise, Ruby and Ogu, was one of the most adorable things we've seen lately. And mind you, it’s not the first time that these super cute, cloud-like companions stole the show from our favourite Korean celebs! In fact, we’ve been spotting the same adorable gangajis (Korean term for a dog) in the arms of Park Seo Joon, Park Min Young, and more.
Fun fact: Back in the 16th century, these stuffed toy-looking dogs were the furry companions of King Francis I of France and England’s King Henry III. Just like any pet parent, King Henry III carried his Bichon with him everywhere in a cute basket that he hung from his neck! These fluffy dogs were also the favorite subjects of famous artists like Francisco de Goya. We can’t blame them—Bichons are too cute to resist!
But other than their signature doll eyes and fluffed fur, Bichons are known for their playful, cheerful, and good-natured personality. They are also perfect for apartment living. Given that they come in such a cute size, they won’t need so much space to run around. The best part? Being yappy is not a common trait among dogs of this breed. (No complaints from your neighbors, for sure!)
Here are 5 Korean celebs who love their Bichon BFFs:
1. Song Hye Kyo’s Ruby and Ogu
The Hallyu superstar is a mother to two Bichon Frise dogs. Ruby and Ogu recently made their debut at Vogue Hong Kong with the actress and they were just as camera-ready as their owner! Aside from being an adorable companion to the Encounter actress, Ogu also has his own Instagram account with over 3,000 followers!
2. Park Seo Joon and Simba
We know a lot of people would love to be Simba in some of PSJ’s Instagram pics. Just like his dad, this Bichon has become a star of his own. You can often spot this cutie on Park Seo Joon’s Instagram and YouTube accounts. In one video, the actor even shared that his niece refers to his pet as Olaf! How cute is that?
3. Park Min Young and Leon
Fans of the “ParkPark” tandem are quick to spot this twinning pet parent moment. What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim actress Park Min Young is also a fur mom to her own Bichon Frise, who she often fondly refers to as “Leon, my boy.” This lucky dog has also made a lot of cameos on the actress’ social media account. If anything, Leon definitely knows how to work it in front of the cam!
4. Shin Se Kyung's Jinkook and Sarang
If you’re an avid follower of Shin Se Kyung, then you already know that her Bichons are often clad in the cutest matching outfits. From casual to winter wear, Jinkook and Sarang are trendsetters of their own! No wonder The Bride of Habaek star always posts them on her 'gram.
5. Bae Suzy’s Dezy
We all know Damon, Suzy’s Maltese that she named after her favorite Salvatore brother. But did you know that the Start-Up actress also owns a Bichon named Dezy? You heard that right! And despite her busy schedule, Suzy makes sure that she spends some quality time with all her fur babies!
Want a Bichon of your own? Take note: Bichons have a reputation for being needy, so they struggle with separation anxiety which could lead to changes in behavior. To maintain their signature fluff and shape, they also need bathing and grooming on a regular basis. Exercise is a must for these babies since they are prone to obesity, too. So if you are more than committed to showering these cuties with love and affection despite the said challenges, then you are qualified to become a Bichon parent—just like your favorite K-drama stars!
