Tyra Banks Is Suing Netflix Over “America’s Next Top Model” Documentary

For so many people, reality competition America's Next Top Model (ANTM) was their introduction to fashion and the modeling industry. Premiering in 2003, the show immediately became part of pop culture, having produced many iconic TV moments in history.

Unfortunately, the show did not age well. In the recent years, former contestants have opened up about the struggles they experienced while on the show. Some of the issues were thrown at Tyra Banks, who created, produced, and hosted the show for 23 cycles.

Thus, when Netflix announced Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model—a documentary that explores the cultural impact and controversies about ANTM, the whole world watched closely and loudly.

Addressing all the hate thrown at her, Tyra filed a lawsuit last June 13 against Netflix, claiming that her portrayal on the documentary was defamatory. In addition, she argues that the editors of the three-episode series did not include the parts where she took accountability for the controversial show moments.

Tyra revealed that she participated in the documentary because she wanted viewers to get a candid conversation about the show. Sadly, the 16-minute airtime she got from the three-and-a-half-hour interview failed to meet the supermodel's expectations and intentions.

With her claims, Tyra is requesting for a jury trial to reach a decision on the "appropriate" amount she should receive for the damages.
