When Netflix released Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, it promised a full reckoning with the reality show that shaped—and scarred—a generation of aspiring models. The three-part documentary revisits the rise, controversies, and cultural impact of ANTM, featuring interviews with creator Tyra Banks, judges Nigel Barker, Jay Manuel, Miss J. Alexander, and several former contestants.

But one of the show’s most defining figures was conspicuously missing: Janice Dickinson.

For viewers who remember the show’s earliest seasons, Janice Dickinson defined the judging panel’s sharpest edges. With her brutally honest critiques and unapologetic persona, she was a constant presence from cycles 1 to 4, and she remained one of its most talked-about figures long after her departure.

So why wasn’t she in the Netflix documentary?

Why Janice Dickinson Is Missing from Netflix's "Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model"

According to director Daniel Sivan, Janice was not excluded from the project—she simply wasn’t available during filming. At the time, she was already committed to working on another documentary series, reportedly titled Dirty Rotten Scandals, which explores controversies within the entertainment and reality television industry, including her own experiences.

The director described Janice as someone they would have loved to include, calling her presence “bigger than life,” but acknowledged that scheduling ultimately made it impossible. Her representative has also indicated that Janice plans to share her own version of events through her separate project, suggesting that her perspective on America’s Next Top Model may surface in a different, more personal format.

Even without her direct participation, Janice’s influence on the show remains undeniable. Fellow judge Nigel Barker described her as a “force of nature,” underscoring how integral she was to the show’s early tone and dynamic. Her critiques were often polarizing and also reflected the uncompromising reality that the series claimed to represent.

Janice Dickinson on Why She Doesn't Regret Her Comments on ANTM

In a 2022 report by People, Janice made it clear that she does not regret the blunt critiques that became her trademark on America’s Next Top Model. She explained that her judging style was intentional and part of the role she was hired to fulfill. She described her on-screen persona as heightened for television, shaped by the demands of reality TV, where strong personalities were essential to the format.

She also shared that she was positioned as the show’s toughest critic, tasked with delivering unfiltered feedback that added tension and realism to the competition. While her comments were often controversial, they became central to the show’s identity and helped define its early seasons.

That same year, Janice posted a video on Instagram responding to someone asking her if she had "any regrets" about the things she said as a judge in ANTM. "Um, no. It was acting. And that's that," she replied, adding in the caption, "People forget that TV is acting."
