Earlier this year, K-drama favorite Ji Chang Wook flexed his culinary know-how when he joined the cast of Kumusta. Sharing the screen with acclaimed chef JP Anglo, along with actresses Jodi Sta. Maria, Arci Muñoz, Francine Diaz, and Janella Salvador, the Hallyu actor ran a Filipino-themed restaurant in Seoul's Gangnam District.

As expected, the Viu series only brought audiences closer to its cast, with Chang Wook earning major brownie points from his Filipino fans. In March, he also visited Manila to promote the show.

In an Instagram Reel shared from a media engagement, chef JP can be seen gifting his South Korean colleague a unique piece inspired by the Philippines. Upon opening the present, Chang Wook held up a sheer button-up embroidered with an image of a Filipino fisherman. As chef JP explained, it could be worn casually over a black T-shirt. Ever cordial, Chang Wook responded with a "kamsahamnida" and a bow.

Chef JP definitely had the right idea in gifting Chang Wook a fresh interpretation of the barong tagalog, as it could easily fit into any modern gentleman's wardrobe. The piece, aptly titled Fresh Catch, was designed by Martin Uy, who created a collection of piña button-ups in partnership with Kultura.

"Most of our designs are inspired by Filipino culture and the memories many of us grew up with," he tells Preview. "For this piece, we took inspiration from our fishermen and their daily catch, celebrating their hard work and the strong connection Filipinos have with the sea."

Martin aims to create wearable pieces of art, each offering a unique perspective on local culture and heritage. "Every appliqué is hand-cut and sewn using excess fabric from our own production line," he adds, noting the emphasis his brand places on craftsmanship and sustainability.

It's for this reason that each barong-inspired piece is made to order. Those interested in Chang Wook's fisherfolk-inspired top, or any of Martin's other designs, can shop the collection at the Kultura Atelier in NUSTAR Cebu and SM Aura, with SM Makati opening soon. Martin also has a boutique at Retail 3, Trion Tower, in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Prices start at P11,000, depending on the design and motif. Shoot a message to Martin's official Instagram account for orders and inquiries.
