The guest list for the next Crazy Rich Asians production is still growing. Kevin Kwan’s wildly popular universe of Singapore’s upper echelon is getting a new television adaptation, with HBO bringing the story to an eight-episode series. Now, the production is looking for fresh faces to join its cast, with a global casting call open for two characters, Posy and William.
Crazy Rich Asians HBO Series Opens Casting Call
According to the official casting announcement by Firefly Casting, the production is searching for actors to play Posy and William, with submissions open until November 30, 2026.
The role of Posy calls for an East Asian woman in her 30s who can carry herself with glamour and confidence. A former socialite, she's experienced a major fall from grace after her marriage to a wealthy tycoon collapses. The production is looking for someone fluent in English with some familiarity with Mandarin.

William, on the other hand, is a Chinese man in his 20s and the son of a Shanghai real estate billionaire. The character is described as handsome and charismatic, with a mischievous streak and a taste for adventure. He’s also said to have a warmer, more sincere side beneath his larger-than-life persona. Applicants should be fluent in English and conversational in Mandarin.
Interested actors can visit the official Firefly Casting open call for audition scenes and self-tape submission instructions. The notice also makes it clear that auditions are free, so there’s no need to pay anyone to get considered.
What to Know About the Crazy Rich Asians HBO Series
The casting search follows HBO’s announcement of an eight-episode Crazy Rich Asians drama series, which will continue the story introduced in the 2018 film. The movie starred Constance Wu as Rachel Chu, a Chinese American professor who travels to Singapore with her boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding), for his best friend’s wedding. Rachel gets quite the surprise when she learns that Nick comes from an extraordinarily wealthy family, and that his relatives have their own expectations about who he should marry.
The television adaptation is also expected to bring back several familiar faces. Constance, Henry, and Ronny Chieng are among those set to reprise their roles, while Michelle Yeoh will return as Eleanor Young in a recurring capacity. Adele Lim, who co-wrote the original film, is taking on showrunner duties. Author Kevin Kwan and director Jon M. Chu are also attached as executive producers.

For readers familiar with the original books, the characters of Posy and William may prompt a little speculation. Posy’s backstory has some similarities to Kitty Pong, the former soap opera star whose marriage to billionaire Bernard Tai features prominently in China Rich Girlfriend, the second installment of the trilogy. William also sounds somewhat familiar, with his description bearing similarities to Carlton Bao, a wealthy young heir introduced in the same book.
The casting announcement, however, doesn’t confirm that either character is a renamed version of someone from the novels. Posy and William could be entirely new additions to the series, or familiar characters given a different treatment. We’ll have to wait for more details to find out.
The series will stream on HBO Max, with production scheduled to begin in 2027. There’s no release date just yet, but casting is already underway as the franchise prepares for its next television chapter.
