Over the years, Single’s Inferno has pushed out standout contestants who’ve managed to capture either the adoration or ire of viewers. It’s fifth season was no different, garnering global recognition for cast member and Miss Earth 2022 winner Choi Mina Sue, for better of for worse, after gaining infamy for her unconventional dating choices on the show.

Before the whole world got to know her, though, Mina Sue had already visited the Philippines at least twice. She got to talk about her experience in the country during a guesting for Ryan Bang’s Youtube channel.

Ryan and Mina Sue linked up in 2024 for a mukbang video held at the It’s Showtime host’s Quezon City restaurant, Paldo. Over shabu-shabu, the pair talked about Mina Sue’s time in the Philippines as South Korea’s representative for Miss Earth 2022, which she ended up winning.

According to Mina Sue, she and her fellow contestants stayed in the country for two weeks. They traveled around different provinces, including Tarlac and Zamboanga. The pageant itself was held at Okada Manila, where Mina Sue made history as the first South Korean to win the Miss Earth title.

When asked why she chose to join Miss Earth, Mina Sue credited the competition’s advocacies. She also loved that it involved several speaking portions, calling herself “madaldal,” a word Ryan taught her during the video shoot.

Thanks to Single’s Inferno, the vlog has since resurfaced, attracting viewers that know her from the reality show. Despite the criticism she received during the series, commenters on Ryan’s video praised her for her authenticity and easy-going nature.

“Out of everyone on Singles Inferno, she’s the only one who doesn’t wear heavy makeup and even rocks baggy clothes. I honestly don’t get the hate,” said one Youtube user. “Mina can be such a drama queen but she can be really funny,” another one wrote.
