Bretman Rock has candidly revealed his “most disappointing celebrity encounter,” and it turns out to be a fellow Filipino-blooded celebrity. He spilled the tea in an episode of Sweet or Savory Podcast, hosted by Filipino-American couple AJ Rafael and Alyssa Navarro.

When the couple asked Bretman who his most disappointing celebrity encounter was, he first provided the initials “VH” and quickly clarified that he was referring to Vanessa Hudgens. “I don’t like her,” he began, adding a humorous comment that he “was always Team Sharpay,” referring to the actress’ fictional rival in her breakthrough project High School Musical.
Bretman recalled the experience by tracing back to a few years ago, around 2017 or 2018, when he and Vanessa were invited to Coachella by Sugarbear, a hair vitamins brand.
At the event, Bretman said he attempted to greet the brand’s CEO by waving to get his attention. According to him, actress Vanessa Hudgens appeared to notice the gesture and may have assumed it was directed at her. Bretman claimed that Hudgens then tried to avoid the interaction, adding that he observed someone—whom he presumed to be her assistant—position themselves in front of her.
“There’s no reason for you to be hiding or having your assistant hide you,” Bretman said, noting that the gathering was an exclusive, invite-only event organized by the brand. “We have the same rate,” he added. “You’re not above me, I’m not under you.”

Bretman also said he was aware of the proper time and place to approach fellow celebrities, stressing that he was not attempting to interact with Vanessa as a fan. “I’m not a fan,” he said. He added, “I’m Filipino—you can’t even like your own people.”
Vanessa was named the Philippines’ Global Tourism Ambassador in 2023. According to GMA News, the honorary title is conferred by the government to “recognize outstanding individuals who help promote the Philippines as one of the best tourism destinations in the world.”
