Anne Curtis Has a Gracious Response to Netizen Who Called Her “Retokada”

Throughout her storied career spanning more than two decades, Anne Curtis has become synonymous with the moniker “dyosa,” or goddess. The nickname dates back to 2008, when she starred in the Filipino fantasy series Dyosa, but it has endured over the years, often used in reference to her timeless beauty.

Recently, a netizen speculated that the actress had undergone cosmetic surgery, prompting a gracious response from Anne herself.

On September 21, an X user posted a close-up photo of Anne with the caption, “Gandang budol.” In the image, the actress smiles under bright lighting, with her skin texture visible. While the caption seemed to take a jab at her appearance, Anne appeared unfazed, responding with a simple, “Love it!!”

Later that evening, the same user reposted the photo and called Anne a “retokada,” a Filipino term commonly used to refer to someone who has allegedly undergone cosmetic procedures. The user then wrote, “Exhibit A - anak,” alongside a reference to Anne’s daughter, Dahlia, seemingly comparing their appearances to support the claim.

Anne soon followed up with a lengthier response. “Can proudly say I’m not retokada at all,” she wrote. “And for me, for me lang naman, my daughter and I are both beautiful.”

The actress also noted that she doesn’t usually take the time to respond to comments like these, but used the moment to extend kindness instead. “I don’t know who hurt you or why you’re so angry with me, but nonetheless, sending you some kindness. Maybe you [need] some in your life,” she continued, before ending her response with a “big virtual hug.”

One of Anne’s supporters encouraged her to stop responding to negative comments, saying, “Hindi nila deserve ang attention ng dyosa!” Anne, however, explained why she chose to engage: “It was more of making that person [realize] that, instead of feeling so much hate and bitterness, try replacing those [ill] feelings with [kindness],” she wrote, adding that doing so could help them feel better. “Hindi nakakaganda yung may galit sa life.”
