Everything You Need to Know About the New Bae Suzy Netflix K-Drama "Doona!"

A whirlwind romance, a former K-pop idol, and an unassuming love interest–sounds like the stuff of fanfiction, but it’s now a full-fledged K-drama!

Making her Netflix return since the hit 2020 series Start-Up, Hallyu favorite Bae Suzy is set to make us swoon once more in the love-inducing Doona!, centered on a former star and the romance she finds post-fame. But before it hits streaming screens, here’s what you need to know about the drama to tune in for.

The Plot

Based on the hit webtoon The Girl Downstairs , former idol Lee Doo-Na (Bae Suzy), once the beloved main vocalist of a popular girl group, surprises everyone with her sudden retirement. Now leading a low-profile life in a shared house near a university, she now rarely ventures outside. Enter Lee Won-Joon (Yang Se Jong), an ordinary and kind-hearted university student. 

Unbeknown to him, his warmth becomes a source of solace for Doo-Na. As they cohabit in the shared house, a magnetic connection develops, drawing them closer with each passing day. The charming K-drama is set to navigate the blossoming relationship between a withdrawn former idol and an unassuming, genuine young man in an unexpected love in the most ordinary of settings.

The Cast

Leading the cast is Bae Suzy, who plays the titular character Doona. The Hallyu icon has been a staple in the Korean entertainment industry since her debut in the girl group Miss A. These days, she has frequented the K-drama screen as an acclaimed actress, starring in recent series like Anna, Start-Up, Vagabond, and While You Were Sleeping.

Doona! finds its male lead with Yang Se Jong, portraying the university student Won Joon. The acclaimed actor has appeared in hit productions including Dr. Romantic and Still 17.

Among the rest of the cast lineup includes The Good Detective’s Shin Ha Young, So Not Worth It’s Park Se Wan, Start-Up’s Kim Do Wan, and The Uncanny Counter’s Kim Min Ho.

The Crew

Helming the director chair is Lee Jung Hyo, the mind behind several K-drama hits and favorites, with a filmography spanning Crash Landing on You, Romance Is a Bonus Book, Criminal Minds, and The Good Wife.

Meanwhile, writer Jang Yu Ha will pen the series, which will be based on the pages of the hit webtoon by Min Song A.
