Yup, it's official: Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa is officially a leading lady. She's starring in the Filipino adaptation of The Housemaid, a Korean melodramatic thriller released in 2010. As you've probably guessed, the project's definitely not the typical feel-good rom-com most local actresses would pick for their debut starring roles–the film follows Daisy (played by Kylie), a newly-appointed yaya who becomes involves in a tempestous love triangle with the parents of the home. The cast is star-studded, too, including big names like Jaclyn Jose, Albert Martinez, Alma Moreno, and Louise delos Reyes. It's slated to be released on September 10 via Vivmax, and we literally can't wait!
The film is definitely a dark, erotic thriller– a genre that requires serious acting chops. It's a departure from Kylie's previous work in lighthearted comedies and romance films, proving her range and talent.
During her cover interview with Preview back in February, the 29-year-old actress shared how committed she was to the role. “I had to deglamorize myself—no makeup, no nothing…I didn’t even want my makeup artist to talk to me as Kylie. The way she spoke to me, gusto ko as Daisy na. It really took some time and some solitude to be on my own to get this role right. And thankfully naman, with the lock-in setting, I was able to do it," she said.
Kylie dropped the official trailer on her Instagram on August 12, and, as expected, netizens couldn't contain their excitement. Several celebs, too, praised her daring and sophisticated performance. We totally agree with all of their comments! Take a look.
