K-pop sensation Blackpink is breaking the glass ceiling one achievement at a time and it looks like there's no stopping their streak anytime soon. After making history as the highest charting female K-pop act on both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100—with Square Up at number 40 and Ddu-Du Ddu-Du at number 55 respectively—and becoming the first Korean girl group to enter Billboard's Emerging Artists chart, the four-piece is once again defying expectations, and treading international waters, as they're set to take the stage for this year's Coachella. This marks the first female k-pop group to enter the lineup, right after hip-hop trio, Epik High last 2016.
Arguably one of the biggest music festivals in the world, Coachella's annual lineup consists of an ecelctic mix of both heavyweight musical artists and up-and-coming performers to watch. For Coachella 2019, Blackpink will be sharing the spotlight on day one with headliner Childish Gambino, and other established musical acts like the 1975, DJ Snake, and Janelle Monae.
Meanwhile, Tame Impala and Ariana Grande are set to headline the succeeding two sets of the festival, making Ariana the youngest female headliner in the history of Coachella's 20 year run.
The festival will take place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California on April 12 to 14 and 19 to 21. You can catch the Korean quartet perform with a topline billing to their name on April 12, and once again on April 19.
