Solo travel is rising. It was the biggest travel trend of last year, and it looks like it will carry on through to 2020. If you haven't traveled solo, then now is the time to take the plunge. The first step, of course, is figuring out where to go. So, we've put together a list of the best places to travel to solo.
Whether you're planning your first time traveling alone or you're a seasoned solo traveler, these destinations will no doubt do the job. From picturesque beach towns to adventure-filled exotic jungles, here are the best solo vacation destinations.
Malta has several secret spots and little-known nooks. So, you'll never run out of things to explore and see. If you're a culture buff, you can start by taking a look at all the Game of Thrones shooting locations. After, you can visit the different islets, take in the local life, and even taste Malta's signature wines.
2. Santiago, Chile
Looking for a bustling city that's less-traveled? Chile's Santiago should be on your list. There, you can experience South American food, nightlife, and architecture in the style of Chile. Best of all, all the amazing landscapes and wildlife are just a stone's throw away.
3. Istanbul, Turkey
Istanbul has been a popular destination for solo travelers since the beginning of commercial travel. It's rich with culture, filled with history, and incredible food that you'd have no problem trying new things out on the daily.
4. St. Lucia
If you love the sea, sand, and sun, you should try spending a couple of days at St. Lucia. St. Lucia, as we know it, has been imbued with so much influence. There's some American Indian, French, and English in there—it's really the definition of a melting pot. Every corner has an amazing view, and amazing Caribbean food and dishes to match.

New to the whole solo travel thing? Start with a place that's more or less familiar like El Nido. You can island-hop your days away, and meet travelers from all over the world by night. Plus, it's been repeatedly named by several publications as the top destination for 2020.
6. Bagan, Myanmar
Once you've gotten the hang of traveling solo, go west toward Myanmar. There, the ancient city of Bagan and it's over 2,000 temples, monasteries, and pagods await. Sunsets are like no other in Bagan, even more so a few thousand feet high from a hot air balloon.
7. Kristiansand, Norway
