Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala may have fallen short of the championship match in China, but she still made a strong showing at the inaugural Jingshan Tennis Open. The 20-year-old reached the semifinals before bowing out to New Zealand’s Lulu Sun in a three-set battle.

While Alex missed out on another WTA 125 title, her performance in Jingshan secured not only valuable ranking points but also a tidy prize purse.

The 2025 Jingshan Tennis Open is being staged on outdoor hard courts and debuts this year as part of both the WTA 125 calendar and the ATP Challenger Tour. Held in Jingshan, China, the tournament runs from September 22 to 28 and draws rising talents and seasoned players alike looking to boost their rankings.

Alex powered her way to the semifinals, notching important wins before ultimately falling 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to Lulu Sun. Despite the loss, the Filipina tennis star still collected 49 ranking points and a prize money haul worth $7,960 (approximately P462,215), according to the WTA.

At the Jingshan Tennis Open, players who reach the Round of 32 earn $1,670 (approximately P96,970), while those who advance to the Round of 16 take home $2,695 (around P156,490). Quarterfinalists receive $4,620 (about P268,270), and semifinalists—including Alex Eala—pocket $7,960 (approximately P462,215). The runner-up prize is set at $13,350 (roughly P775,197), while the champion secures the top reward of $22,730 (around P1.3 million).
