There are countless reasons we love coffee. It keeps us awake, tastes divinely bitter, and smells like heaven in a mug. A steaming hot cup may be your morning go-to, but in case you didn't already know, coffee has its cons, too. Studies show that excessive consumption of the caffiene-laden brew can lead to hormonal acne, heightened blood pressure, and insomnia, among others. Yikes.

Are the facts enough for you to drop the habit? Just in case, below are five alternatives to drink for when you need that caffeine-free boost.
1. Wheatgrass
This natural energizer is a potent liquid shot of essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. You may or may not like the taste, but note that wheatgrass is one of the most nourishing juices around.
2. Matcha
It has slightly less caffeine than coffee, but it's got more than enough to keep you alert—plus, it's packed with powerful antioxidants. We used to think that green tea was supposed to help us sleep, but apparently it's the other way around!

3. Dark chocolate
Dark chocolate—without milk or sugar (the purer, the better)—has a small dose of caffeine in it to help heighten mental alertness. Also, it contains theobromine, which boosts energy levels.
4. Apple cider vinegar
You've probably heard that apples are ace for keeping sleepiness at bay, but what about its fermented, liquified version? Apple cider vinegar is rich in probiotics and B vitamins, which provide extra energy.

5. Chai tea
A healthy stimulant, a hot cup of chai (in latte form, if you like!) is an ideal morning wake-me-upper. It's a black tea blend, so it carries significantly more caffeine than other variants. You get a delicious blend of spices, too—cinnamon, cardamom, fennel, cloves, and ginger. Tasty!
