You won't need IG filters once you try cloud skin!

Getting glowy and dewy skin has been the goal for many skincare lovers ever since the "glass skin" trend was introduced. It’s achieved by slathering on tons of moisturizers and choosing a cream or liquid makeup product over powder formulas. The result is a smooth ultra-glossy and high-shine complexion similar to a glazed donut.

Let’s be honest, glass skin may be the goal for a lot of people. But for some, "glass skin" can feel and look like oily skin. And in a humid country like the Philippines, it’s not the most comfortable feeling. If you want to achieve a lit-from-within kind of look without the extra shine, we suggest trying "cloud skin."

Everything you need to know about "cloud skin"

Cloud skin is essentially the opposite of glass skin. Instead of a wet look, cloud skin is all about achieving a soft, plump, and hazy complexion—like how your skin looks with Instagram filters on. The best part is, it’s not that hard to achieve!

Unlike glass skin which requires a rigorous skincare routine, cloud skin can be achieved through the right makeup products and techniques. So keep reading, because we’ve listed down the step-by-step process and the key products that you need to achieve this blemish-free, diffused look.

How to achieve "cloud" skin?

1. Prep your base!

Like any good makeup routine, it all starts with the base. Start prepping your skin by using a hydrating facial cleanser to get rid of any leftover dirt and debris. Once you’ve freshened up your face, apply some moisturizer or face oil, this will help you get that glow from within. Any moisturizer will do but if you want something that’s lightweight but keeps your skin extra hydrated, try the Neutrogena Hydro Boost. It’s a gel-based hyaluronic acid moisturizer that locks in hydration and quickly absorbs into the skin, making it a great base for makeup.

    2. Opt for a velvet or soft matte foundation

Remember, cloud skin is about getting that glow from within. You don’t want to look too shiny, but you also don’t want to look dry. So instead of using a matte foundation, opt for one with a velvet or soft matte finish.

Now here comes the most important part: When applying your foundation, you have to be precise. Don’t just slather on your foundation. Instead, dot it across your face and use a fluffy brush to gently blend your foundation onto your skin.

      3. Be sparing with the powder

Use a translucent powder to set your foundation but don’t use too much. Only dab on places where you think there’s too much shine, such as the forehead, chin, and nose areas. Sweep the powder on—instead of packing it in with a sponge—to create a blurred (not cakey) look.

      4. Stick to a glitter-free highlighter

Glitter-free highlighters exist and they’re perfect for that glow-from-within look. The NARS Highlighting Powder contains zero glitters but it can still give you a natural and healthy-looking glow. Only apply the highlight on your cheekbones and cupids bow.

      5. Finish the rest of your makeup.

Now that you’ve achieved cloud skin, just go ahead and complete your look. Try the "angelic makeup" and the ‘I’m cold’ trends that will look perfect with cloud skin.
