Happy nails, happy me.

What: Solique x Agoo Gel polish by Girlstuff. In collabration with local brand Solique, beauty expert Agoo Bengzon (who was also Preview's beauty editor) released a limited edition collection of gel polishes. She created a total of three shades for the line: a nude mauve, a vibrant magenta, and a deep blue. Each one requires no time under a UV lamp, and is free from five harmful chemicals usually found in nail polishes. Coming in the GEN II for Solique formula, these gel hues claim to give your nails some high shine and long-lasting color.

Current Condition:

I love the look of gel polish, but am not so much of a fan of UV lamps and soaking. I'd rather do my nails the old fashioned way even if it requires me to apply a fresh coat every two weeks. Thankfully, no-UV gels exist now, so my shiny polish dreams aren't so farfetched anymore. That said, most of the ones I've tried have performed very similarly to the point where I don't really have a favorite. I consider this the challenge for every new one that I try.

How I Used It:

To get the full experience out of these polishes, I used them with the Solique Anchor Grip Base Coat. It gave my nails a hint of shine and dried down after a minute or so. For my main polish, I used the deep blue shade called Posse. I expected it to be on the sheer side since it's quite dark, but it surprised me with good color payoff instead. I applied two coats with a three-minute interval as I usually do, facing no issues with clumping and streakiness as I went.

The only issue I faced was when it came to applying the Gel Top Coat. Since Posse is such a dark color, some of the polish transferred to the top coat's brush and gave my accent nail with the shade Cloud a bluish tint. I might have gotten too excited and layered on the top coat prematurely. I would suggest giving your nails a bit more time (around five minutes) to dry before sealing the color in just to be safe.

Conclusion:

For Php180 a pop, these polishes will be a great addition to a growing collection. The colors are unique and wearable, not to mention that these are homegrown products of amazing quality. My coat of Posse lasted for two weeks with minimal chipping. I'd recommend this to anyone who, like me, prefers the look that gel polish has sans the hassle.
