Preview Editors Dish on Their First Anti-Aging Products Because it’s never too early to start.

A friend of mine recently told me that her “youth is a scarce resource.” Some pretty strong words coming from a 25-year-old, don’t you think? But truth be told, the road to seeking perpetual youth often starts as early as your 20s, because until someone debunks the myth and proves that the fountain of youth truly exists, we’re all pretty much slaves to our collagen boosters and firming eye creams. Here, three Preview editors share their first encounters with anti-aging products as they began their quest for eternal youth.

How old were you when you started using anti-aging products?

My mom introduced me to skin care when I was 16, telling me I should start early. (This advice was reiterated by Agoo Bengzon, Preview's former beauty editor, when I started working.)

Why did you start? What was your main skin concern then?

My concerns at that time were pimples as well as an uneven skin tone because I loved going to the beach and being out in the sun.

What was the product you bought and how was it?

My mom gave me a Neutrogena Fine Fairness cleanser and moisturizer and I used a Clinique toner. This was in the ‘90s.

How old were you when you started using anti-aging products?

I started using eye cream at 21—I think it was the first step I took towards investing in my skin beyond the regular cleanse, tone and moisturizing regimen. I'm 35 years old!

Why did you start? What was your main skin concern then?

At that time, I realized it's never too early to start investing in your skin, especially since I started wearing makeup more often. I was (and still am) pretty blessed to have good skin that isn't acne-prone, so my concern was to delay the appearance of crow's feet and fine lines. And since the under eye area is one of the most sensitive, I figured to start there. It seems to have worked so far.

What was the product you bought?

The first eye cream I bought for myself was Clinique. It did its job, and it was perfect for me then. Now, I use La Prairie. I'm a little older now; I'm beginning to realize I need the stronger, more potent creams already, coupled with good concealer! But of course, now it's just not eye cream, but I've also been using serums, masks and anti-aging moisturizers, too.

How old were you when you started using anti-aging products?

I started using anti-aging products when I was 20. My current age is 39.

Why did you start? What was your main skin concern then?

My main concern was prevention. I really didn't want to see any premature signs of aging like fine lines and pigmentation so I loaded up on serums and spf products.

What was the product you bought?

The first products I bought were a tube of Retin A and sunblock. I applied a thin layer of Retin A at night, then SPF in the daytime.
