After years of dyeing my hair on a regular basis and scouring the internet for pegs, it’s safe to say that Japanese hair stylists have become an excellent source of hair color inspo for me. On Instagram, accounts of Tokyo-based salons like ALBUM and colorist Tsuyoshi Saito are a treasure trove of flattering and unique dye job ideas you’d definitely want to cop.

A reoccurring color I’ve spotted on Japanese colorists as of late is “Milk Beige,” a creamy shade of ash blonde or ash brown that’s simply too pretty to pass up on! You could say that it’s the lighter and silvery sister of the Milk Tea hair trend. Think of it as a “true nude” hair color that’s one-part cool and a tad bit warm.

Once you scroll through stylist Mirai Watabe’s IG feed, you’ll notice that there’s actually an entire spectrum of “beige” hair colors to choose from. From olive or green undertones to maroon or reddish hues, this neutral hair color can be customized according to your liking.

Since “ash hair color” is popular among Filipinas, beige is definitely a similar palette you need to try! If you’re eyeing any of these milky hues above, you can try DIY-ing at home (but don’t forget to prelighten or bleach your hair first!) with these Japanese boxed dyes:
