The long wait is over! The details of Maine Mendoza's lipstick collaboration with MAC Cosmetics are finally out. The brand revealed everything from its color, name, and official packaging, a day before it officially goes on sale. So without further ado, here's everything you need to know about #MaineForMAC:
1. Maine was the only influencer from Asia chosen for the project.
MAC chose 12 influencers from around the world to create a custom lipstick for their MAC Maker collection, and Maine was not only the sole Filipina in the group, she was also the only one based in Asia. "I did not expect that they would choose me to have my own lipstick with them. It's really such a great honor to be chosen," Maine tells Preview. Even the MAC Philippines team says that it was a big deal for them to be chosen out of all the markets in the region. What a proud moment!
2. The lipstick was named after one of her social media handles.
The official name of the lippie is @mainedcm, Maine's Instagram handle, which currently has over three million followers!
3. It's a nude lipstick.
But not just any nude lipstick, it's a color that Maine feels will be perfect for Filipinas. "I wanted this shade to go with anything, like with any event or occasion. I want every Filipina to feel comfortable wearing this lipstick," she explains. We asked her why she opted for it over a red, to which she replied, "I was accustomed with the red lipstick shade because of Yaya Dub, my character in Eat Bulaga, pero I wanted to keep [this color] simple."
Despite being a simple color, it took Maine and the MAC team around four tries to get right! "It took hours, and we were the last ones to finish," says Nicole Tejano of MAC Philippines. Fun fact: a Filipina chemist was actually there in the lab to help them out!
MAC describes @mainedcm as a muted peachy beige shade with a matte finish. Ready for the big reveal? Here's what the final shade looks like on Maine herself:
