Spoiler: It's not hair oil!

When Laureen Uy told me she doesn't use any kind of hair oil to maintain her gray 'do, I was perplexed. Hair that bleached-out with no leave-in conditioner? How does she do it? "Olaplex," she quips. "It really changed my life."

Laureen explains, "I'm not into using a lot of products, but when I started using Olapex, it's like I got my healthy hair back. You feel the strength, you feel the soft texture. I don’t really need to use anything else." Laureen refers to Olaplex as a "hair perfector," and it's used prior to shampooing to rebuild and relink the broken disulfide bonds of your hair (a.k.a. split ends) caused by excessive damage. "It makes everything so easy," Laureen adds.

"If I really want messy waves, I towel-dry my hair, then spray Bumble and Bumble's Surf Spray, scrunch it, and wait for 10 minutes. I get perfect beach waves just like that," she tells Preview. "The IGK Beach Club Texture Spray doesn't leave your hair feeling sticky while giving you the texture that you want."

Just like her approach to fashion, Laureen treats her hair color adventures (she's even had purple and blue hair before) with a lot of fun and spontaneity versus overthinking in vain. "Once you have colored hair, I feel like even without putting a lot of effort into your look, you already look styled. It's all about feeling good about yourself," she continues.

"I find it easier to dress up [now that] I have gray hair. It's such a versatile color. Even if you wear bright colors or nudes or black or white, everything just goes with it. Even if I'm wearing statement colors, it doesn't look like I'm trying so hard to look put-together." In conclusion, Laureen admits that gray might be her spirit hair color—and we'd have to agree.
