If you think hair makeovers only involve getting a cut and color, think again! Growing your hair out will basically do the same thing, and as proven by celebrities, there's a way to do that without waiting.
The (not-so) secret lies in the magic hands of hair extensions specialist, Jhen Maningas Hizon. If the name sounds familiar, you may have seen her tagged by Kathryn Bernardo, Andrea Brillantes, Julia Barretto, and Sofia Andres. In fact, Elisse Joson credits Sofia for introducing her to the hairstylist! Sofia even played photographer by snapping a pic of Elisse flaunting her new look!
“I was around 17 to 18 years old when I started doing hair and makeup. It started with doing my friends' hair, putting on their makeup and playing dress-up,” Jhen tells Preview. One of her friends then invited Jhen to a shoot, and so officially began her journey as a hair and makeup artist.
“One thing led to another, from eyelash extensions to hair extensions,” she explains, reflecting on the trajectory of her career. “So technically, I've been doing this for more than a decade now and I’m still learning, evolving, and mastering this craft,” she adds.
It is this dedication to bettering her craft that has helped Jhen cement her footing in the industry and garner a loyal celebrity clientele. Setting her apart is the fact that her hair extension techniques do not involve glue, chemicals, metal, or heating. This allows the wearer more freedom with styling—you can tie it and use heat-emitting hair tools without worrying about melting glue and scalding metal rings.
Did we mention that she’s extremely skilled with hair coloring, too? She can dye your tresses and your extensions for a seamless and show-stopping ‘do! “As of now our best selling method is our new Korean String Method, plus the money piece and balayage methods that we use for some of our celebs,” she reveals.
While special events, photo shoots, and weddings are popular reasons for getting extensions, she also notes that there are extreme cases when clients need them due to botched haircuts and bad bleaching. Aside from these extraordinary instances, the ladies she serves just want to feel good. “It’s a major confidence boost really, especially to our clients that have thinning hair, it makes them younger-looking and they love it,” Jhen shares.
And no, you don’t have to be a celebrity to get all glammed up! “Most of our daily clients are lovely ladies that just wants their crowns done, celebs are a bonus,” she shares, grateful for their trust.
Curious to know more about what the process is like? Here is everything you need to know about getting hair extensions from celebrity hairstylist, Jhen Maningas Hizon:
Can you tell us a bit more about how hair extensions process?
”It starts with an assessment. I ask what’s the client’s peg, ask for a picture of their current hair, and then I give them a quotation. Depending on the clients needs they can choose from my array of methods (ie: Korean String, Knotting, Sew Ins, and Japanese Pinch Braid). Once all is settled, we book her an appointment and voila: clients come as Lady, goes home a Queen.”
