If you have ever been insecure of your smile, know that you are not alone. Not everyone was born with perfect teeth, and that includes many celebrities whose smiles we admire.
Below, you'll find the story of five personalities who have opened up about being insecure of their teeth. Some of them eventually had it fixed, while some chose to embrace their natural smile. Learn about their journey below!
In 2019, Mimiyuuuh suddenly rose to fame on YouTube because of her viral Dalagang Pilipina challenge. She never fails to make anyone laugh with her hilarious videos, holding such an engaging charm that many couldn't resist. But despite all the smiles she causes, Mimiyuuuh was once insecure of her own teeth when she was younger.
“Dati po nung bata ako, yung ngipin ko po [was my biggest insecurity] pero as I get older, I realized na yung mga imperfections ko make me unique,” said the vlogger. She obviously embraces every part of her now. Her pearly whites were even front and center in her Preview cover, where she rocked a big, beautiful smile!
2. Melai Cantiveros
Melai Cantiveros's big smile has practically become her signature, but did you know that during her high school days, she was not confident about her teeth at all? "Ang ngipin ko [ang biggest insecurity ko], kasi [the placement in front is] one seat apart," she quipped. "Kasi dati 'yung braces, pag high school, pag may braces ka mayaman ka 'di ba? 'Sosyal, may braces siya.’ Pero hindi ko nakuha kasi mahal nga 'yon sabi ng mama ko.”
That said, it seems that Melai chose not to fix her teeth in the end. Besides, straight teeth or not, her smile remains infectious and beautiful!
It's no secret that Pia Wurtzbach gave her third try at Binibining Pilipinas her all. And since she knew it was going to be her last chance, the beauty queen went as far as fixing one thing that made her self-conscious: Her teeth. She invested in veneers before the pageant, and doesn't regret it one bit.
"They were so nice. CAD (Center of Advanced Industry) let me pay in installments and even gave me a good discount," she said in an interview. Mind you, Pia was still still relying on her modeling and small acting gigs at the time. Her budget was tight but she managed to save some money to achieve that winning smile!
During the pageant, it was evident how much more confident Pia became after the procedure. She said, "Your smile really changes your face. You look better, and you’re smiling a lot more. And because you love it, you just naturally become confident. Everyone was saying I looked good, but that was the time when my stubbornness [to have my teeth fixed] worked." In the end, her gorgeous smile also made her stand out on the Miss Universe stage!
You'd usually see Heart sporting her mesmerizing pearly whites on social media, but she wasn't always this confident of her smile. During a contract signing for a tooth care brand, Heart revealed that she was once insecure of having yellowish teeth.
She said, “They [my teeth] would get so stained because I drink a lot of coffee, so nagiging yellowish 'yung teeth ko...In fact, I would even cover my mouth when I laugh.” Now, Heart still loves to drink coffee, and she simply incorporated teeth whitening products into her routine to always have a picture-perfect smile.
5. Angeline Quinto
After winning Star Power in 2011, Angeline was keen on having her teeth fixed. In a tele-magazine show, she stated, “Mahalaga po para sa akin talaga na maging maayos po ang ngipin ko kasi siyempre singer po ako madalas ako nakikita sa TV...Para pag nakita naman ako ng maraming tao kahit papano, hindi naman ako panget tignan.”
Aside from the teeth whitening and gum conditioning, doctors also performed a couple of procedures for Angeline to achieve a perfect smile. One was a tooth extraction to help align her teeth for the coming procures, as well as aesthetic recontouring to shape her gums and make her teeth look more leveled. A doctor also filled her cavities and placed veneers on top to conceal the damage. Then, she got braces as her final step. It was a total smile makeover for Angeline!
