Aveda's Control Paste has been chosen by the Preview team as the Best Hair Styling Product of 2019. This and 24 other products were reviewed by 25 real girls for this year's Preview Girls' Choice Awards to see if they truly deserved their title. Ahead, communications executive Patty ES Dimaano-Moncera gives us her thoughts on the product:

The Product: Aveda Control Paste

What It Is

The Aveda Control Paste is a finishing paste that leaves hair pliable enough to play with. Made of guar and flax, it offers hold without weighing the strands down.

Current Condition

My hair is naturally wavy, frizzy, and with all-out volume. After giving birth, I cut 10 inches off my crowing glory. As a mom of two, I wanted a fuss-free ‘do, although I still needed to look professional for work. Given these, I don’t always have the luxury of time.

With my new super duper short hair, I dove right into my husband’s arsenal of waxes, gels, and pomades—and wow, he had a lot. With waxes, I like the selection because they're matte. The gels I’ve tried were okay with the holding power but had a wet and super glossy finish to it. Not my style. The pomade I’m currently using is also fine—holding power is good and it’s matte, too, but the smell could be better! I also use a hairspray for days when I just have 10 seconds to spare, but then my hair comes out too stiff.

I was excited to try Aveda Control Paste because I’ve been wanting to get my own hair product. In the morning, it only takes me two minutes to dry my hair then I’d usually slap on the nearest hair product I can get my hands on.

How I Used It

The Aveda Control Paste comes in a muted green tub. The product has a light yellow color, a buttery feel but with more firmness. I need to dig my fingers in to get the paste out. I rub it in my hands and then scrunch my hair. Voila! I'm done! Took me a total of 20 seconds to fix my hair. No brushing. No hair dryers. No heat styling involved.

Final Thoughts

I noticed that it controls the frizz and flyaways, which is especially noticeable since I have unruly hair near my right ear. It’s like organized chaos, which I like. It gives my hair texture but leaves it flexible enough to style. It has a bit of hold but certainly not the stiff kind. It gives my hair some sheen but not the over-the-top wet look!

I would definitely use this every day until I finish the tub. I’d recommend it to someone who likes a fuss-free 'do.
