It isn’t only in fashion that styles come and go. In the world of fitness, there seems to be a new health movement that takes place every season. From the hype of yogilates, the boom of juice cleansing, and the thriving industry of diet deliveries, keeping fit is now synonymous to staying on trend. 

Much like fashion’s LBD and white button-down, working out also keeps its own classics. Yes, most of us have memberships to the gym (not to say we have the energy to even use it) and do a quick cardio-routine in the morning. While we love the convenience of familiarity, it’s important for us to step out of our comfort zones once in a while and try something different.

And by different, we mean more efficient. We’ve compiled a list of the top workout trends that are bound to get you bikini-ready in no time! A fair warning though, we don’t promise that these top-notchers are easy. They will be difficult, but they will be worth it. After all, the only bad workout is the one you didn’t do, right?

1. Indoor Cycling

While foodies alike flock to Burgos Circle for good eats, we’ve found a hidden gem amidst the calorie-laced establishments—Electric Studio. We’re all aware that spinning has become increasingly popular over the past few months, but this place takes it on a whole other level. It uses HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training, which includes intermittent periods of concentrated effort followed by short recovery. The studio’s take on the workout also includes a lot of dancing whilst spinning on your wheels and doing weight training in between. It may sound tiring but the darkly-lit room with bright lights flashing and the EDM-laden music bed is enough to sustain your energy for the 45-minute session. Plus, you get a free banana too! Talk about fitspiration, right?

2. Indoor Rowing

Cross-fit is so passé. We’re rowing our way to cross-training. It requires the same amount of effort from your upper and lower body. In fact, it easily hits nine groups of muscles including your hamstrings, shoulders, legs, and arms. A recent study at Harvard University reported that a 185-lb man torched a whopping 377 calories only through vigorous rowing for 30 minutes. Set sail to your fitness goal with this new workout!

3. Aqua Zumba

What better way to beat the summer heat than plunging into cool water? Then again, why stop at plunging when your body can do so much more? We’re getting our groove on for the latest take on the Zumba craze. Swimming alone already burns up to 720 calories per hour. On the other hand, Zumba’s sporadic dancing on land stomps 400 to 700 calories per session. Put the two together and you have an entire workout to tone your muscles and firm up your abs. Who knows, you might be donning a sexy bikini during your next Aqua Zumba sesh.

4. Ashtanga Yoga

A lot of us enjoy the ease of yoga and the calm of mediation. However, we may not be using its fitness aspect to our advantage. Most of us engage in stress-free and FNR (Flexibility Not Required) sessions that don’t provide much tension in the body. While it succeeds at giving us peace of mind, we think you should bring it to its full calorie-burning potential. Ashtanga yoga, especially when done in a heated room, comprises of doing several tight movements in a continuous or flow motion. Despite being in constant flux, the efforts taken are gentle on the body. Imagine cardio, only calmer.

5. Mountain Climbing

If having a double-tap worthy post doesn’t motivate you to go, then we suggest turning your eyes on the fitness prize. And the best part is you don’t need to be pressured by the speed and technique of other goers similar to a fitness class. You go at your own speed… and get to enjoy the view, too!
