There's just something about ash brown hair that instantly elevates your look. The color is undeniably cool and flattering for most skin tones, and makes your tresses looks simply stylish even when you step out of your house in a plain white tee. Having said that, Filipinas are obsessed with this hue that's actually not as easy to achieve as it looks.
To get the perfect ash brown 'do does require you to bleach your hair to some extent (it's very dependent on how light you want your color to be—if you want it to be more silvery or subtle is totally up to you) but there are DIY hair dyes or boxed hair colors you can buy at the grocery or drugstore that'll get you pretty close to the gorgeous ash brown hair pegs you've saved on Pinterest.
Having tried a lot of box dyes over the years, I've found that the trick is to find a brand that lightens your hair with a cool undertone to turn your hair ashy instead of just a warm light hue. Because we all know Asian hair has a naturally warm or reddish undertone, the dye you need to pick should cancel or neutralize the warmth when it lightens your strands to prevent it from looking brassy. Simple color theory really!

So here are 10 DIY hair colors you should try if you want that non-brassy ash brown color you've been dying to achieve. (Note: I've actually tried most of these dyes myself on both my natural dark brown hair color and on bleached hair. Most of these are Japanese dyes because they've proven to produce the color indicated on the box even on virgin hair.)
