Everything You Missed at the Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival

Once you Malasimbo, there’s no turning back.
Everything You Missed at the Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival Once you Malasimbo, there’s no turning back.

Ask anyone who's been to Malasimbo and they will tell you it’s unlike no other. You get to take your pick from the many pristine Puerto Galera beaches in the morning then go dancing up in the mountain, under the stars at night. Seriously, where else can you experience the beauty of nature and music in one weekend like that? This year marks the 6th installment of the festival and with the increasing turnout every year, it’s safe to say that it’s probably because it’s true: once you Malasimbo, there’s no turning back. Over the years, it's gained a strong cult following and below we give you the reasons why.

1. The acts never fall short of spectacular.

At Malasimbo you get to see true artists, well-curated to give the musically discerning crowd a good mix of local and foreign acts, all passionate about their craft.

Brigada gave the Friday early birds their money’s worth by getting everyone up and dancing with their crowd-pumping beats.

Classical Contemporary Guitar Trio, Triple Fret, mixed things up incorporating some Beatles and OPM realness to their line up.

The musical arrangements of one-man band, Jacob Collier, blew us away.

Girl on fire June Marieezy knew how to put on a performance.

2. There is always something new to look forward to.

Aside from the performances that begin at dusk, an array of morning activities are also laid out.

This year, apart from yoga and capoeira, we were also treated to a Ride Sandals kite boarding exhibition at one of Puerto Galera’s hidden spots, Elizabeth’s Hideaway.

DJ Javi Vargas provided the perfect afternoon seaside beats.

3. Mt. Malasimbo is the perfect venue for a chill night of good music and art.

The amphitheater is surrounded by neon lit palm trees and a view of the sea.

I mean, look at that crowd.

4. The green venue is peppered with IG-worthy works of art.
