Heart Evangelista is no doubt a multi-hyphenate girl–actress, host, painter, designer, and author. She may have already made her name distinguished across many platforms, but what's about to make her most recognizable worldwide is her talent for marrying fashion and art through her painted Hermès bags.
After her first two successful exhibits at the Ayala Museum and at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore (which made her the first Filipina to exhibit at Chan Hampe), she’s now set to curate all her hand-painted designer bags this September.
In a collection aptly named Carry your HeART, Heart will showcase all her personal and commissioned painted bags at the Volkswagen Showroom in Bonifacio Global City. These bags carry a piece of herself, her art, and her passion for it, carefully brushed in florals and fauna, symbols, and womanly figures. Heart adds, “Each represents me as an artist. Each is truly a unique work of art.”
Painting on luxury bags is no easy feat as “each entailed painstaking process of overcoming fear. Since these are smaller canvases, owned by clients, and are incredibly valuable as is, there was a lot of pressure on me not to make any mistake,” Heart explains.
It’s more than just having talent. It also requires a great amount of skill and precision. “Since you’re limited to a smaller canvas, you should have a steady hand and be more conscious about the strokes,” she shares. “You have to know exactly what to do, because there’s no margin for error.” Thus, Heart says she’s become more of a perfectionist and has paid close attention to every detail.
With each painted Hermès bag, Heart raises its value, adding uniqueness, luxury, and exclusivity, and therefore making it truly one of a kind and a work of art.
Carry your HeART exhibit will run from September 3 to 9. Alongside this, Heart is also set to launch her coffee table book about her painted bags.
