Wynn Wynn In Wwd

The eclectic jewelry designer hits the global scene.
Wynn Wynn In Wwd The eclectic jewelry designer hits the global scene.

A nautical piece by jewelry designer Wynn Wynn Ong, made the cover of Women's Wear Daily (WWD) on February 8, 2010 (just a day before Rajo's cobweb dress graced the cover of the trade newspaper). Wynn Wynn was also featured among five other designers in the article “Accessories Designers to Watch: The New Deals.”

'“I've had a very nomadic kind of life,”' said Wynn Wynn in her interview, which also reports that her “Nagá collection, (is) named after the serpentlike creatures that are part of Buddhist iconography.”

The featured line comes fast on the heels of “Ages,” the 40-piece collection launched at Firma last November 23, 2009, whose sculpture-like pieces were inspired by mythological gods and creatures.

This time, nature was the backbone of her story. A purse fashioned from a nautilus shell and “a fictional lemon-citrine spider, named Stella” bested others, and landed on WWD's cover with the headline “Creature Feature.” Apart from this, a large cuff, laden with a gold seahorse and bejeweled corals, figured prominently in the inner pages.

It's an exciting time for Philippine fashion as the globe is slowly turning its gaze in this direction (what with Charlene Almarvez, who nabbed the first runner-up spot at the 2009 Ford Supermodel of the World competition, already working the catwalk for New York Fashion Week).
