“You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” True. And this seems to be the statement that Rustan's Personal Shopper and Customer Development Manager, Rima Ostwani, lives by.

Rima sure does leave a lasting impression. She believes that dressing up gives an impression of who you are. After all, “Fashion is instant language,” according to Miuccia Prada.

Born and raised here, this Syrian-slash-Spanish-slash-German beauty has the face of an angel with a feminine and elegant style that suits her perfectly.

Read more about Rima on how she dresses up at her workplace and why she makes that very pleasant, lasting impression to her clients.

What exactly do you do?
I'm a Personal Shopper and Customer Development Manager for Rustan's. Basically, it is all about indulging our customers by giving them the most unique shopping experience through expert advice and personalized service.

We do wardrobe coordination, gift selection, image styling and makeover, home and lifestyle consultation, new collection updates, trend forecasts and insight and merchandise selection by request. We give special attention to gift giving as it is an all year round request. We make sure that gift selection especially gift giving is hassle-free for our customers.

How did you get into this career?
I took up AB International Studies major in European in De La Salle University, Manila. I wanted to pursue foreign and diplomatic affairs due to my interest in International Relations, languages and traveling.

Just a month or two after graduating from college, the Rustan's offer came along. I said to myself, I was going to put my dream of being a diplomat on hold since I was still young anyway then and still had time in my hands to explore, and so I decided to give retail a shot. Retail soon became my passion. I've been doing this for almost four years now!

What's your daily routine/schedule like?
No two days for me are alike. Each day brings something new, exciting and different.

My day at work would generally include attending meetings, walking or running around the store—depending on urgency of situation—meeting new and existing clients, browsing through latest arrivals, selecting and preparing merchandise, picking out and styling outfits and last but not the least, always finding something to buy!

What do you do on your spare time?
Hardly have any spare time. If I don't have a photo shoot scheduled and I'm lucky enough to have a little spare time, I just relax and read a book or have my facials at Facial Care Centre.

What do you do after work?
After work, I usually attend functions/events, have dinner with family/friends or watch a movie. I also make it a point to go to the gym at least three times a week after work which is the only free time I have.

What do you do on weekends?
Believe it or not, I work on weekends. And on holidays, too! This is because we follow the store schedule. I actually spend more time at the store than at home! But when I do get the chance to take a weekend off, it would definitely be an out-of-town trip!

What are your other interests? Hobbies?
Aside from traveling and never ending shopping, I am a big supporter of K.I.D.S (Kabataang Inyong Dapat Suportahan) Foundation. Through its programs and activities, the Foundation's main thrust is to uplift the standards of living of the disadvantages youth through medical missions, feeding programs and educational grants. It is always heartwarming and fulfilling to participate in these programs.

Is there any fashion item you collect?
Shoes, scarves, bikinis and vintage accessories.

What's your favorite item in your closet?
Have no particular favorites. I love everything in my closet and that's why each and every item is there.

Where do you shop for office/work wear?
Rustan's. Rustan's is where I shop for practically everything since it is where I spend maybe 80% of my time. Culte Femme is my all time favorite brand for everyday wear. It is unique, classy, tasteful, feminine and sophisticated—absolutely my style. Beautiful pieces at very reasonable prices. I can never pass by Culte Femme without eyeing the next dress or top I must have!

I also shop in Zara. It always has the basics that I need—slacks, blazers, pencil skirts, solid tops, crisp button-down white shirts, cashmere cardigans, a classic trench coat and the little black dress. They also have nice peep toes and wedges which are very comfy for work.
