Work Wear Diaries: Holly Chang

Work Wear Diaries: Holly Chang Style Bible takes a peek at the young entrepreneur’s wardrobe.

Starting a business without any business background isn’t exactly next to impossible. Holly Chang did it at age 23 and opened Wink Laser & Wax Studio at Bonifacio High Street Central last year, banking on her interest in beauty and skin care and backed up by short courses on business.

"I got into this mostly because I felt there was an unmet need in the market, a place that offered both hygienic and reasonably priced laser hair removal,” she shares. These days, the young entrepreneur spends her day overseeing operations, and is already studying how she can grow her business by branching out.

Her passion and enthusiasm are evident as she shows us around her studio. But those are not the only reasons why we love her: We adore her urban cool vibe coupled with penchant for tasteful sartorial choices.

Read on to know more about Holly Chang and how she dresses up for work.

What styles or trends are you gravitating towards lately?

I'm not a very trendy person; I choose what I like and stick to it.

From a fashion/style perspective, do you find anyone particularly inspiring, living or dead?

Miranda Kerr.

Are there any fashion items you collect?

Earrings, bikinis, and shoes.

How long does it take for you to get ready for work?

About an hour. I must admit I move quite slow in the morning because I don't like taking coffee, and I have really thick hair so it takes about 10-15 minutes just to dry it!

How do you choose an outfit? Do you have any particular dressing philosophy/strategy?

The most important thing for me is that I'm comfortable and I like what I'm wearing, then it just depends on what I'll be doing that day.

What's your rule for repeating clothes?

For basics I repeat them quite often, but for printed clothes I try not to wear them more than once every two weeks.

How many pairs of shoes do you wear in a week?

Probably four to five.

How often do you change bags?

For my work bag, probably once every two weeks. For weekends, all the time. It really depends on what I feel like wearing.

What's your favorite item in your closet?

My dragon ring from my mom. It's very meaningful and special to me.

What's the accessory that you can't live without?

Probably a watch. I feel lost without it.

What are the five wardrobe pieces that you wear constantly?

Maxidresses, Everlane tees, Giuseppe Zanotti sandals, my watches, bracelets, and bangles.

What wouldn’t you be caught dead wearing?

Anything I'm not comfortable in.

Office wardrobe tip:

Figure out what's appropriate for your workplace, and then choose clothes based on your own body type. Just because it looks great on your friend doesn't mean that you'll be just as comfortable in it! It's important that you like how you feel in your clothes, especially since you'll be wearing them the whole day and not just for a few hours.
