“Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” Miranda Priestly may be the most iconic fictional fashion authority ever to grace the movies, but Windel Mira defies her statement. The designer proved during his presentation at the Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival that florals for spring can be revamped and made anew—something that would please dear Miranda. Windel Mira’s strategy of choice? Feminine spring glamour through punchy pops of color.
There are probably three things that make this collection impactful: The first would be its obvious romantic feel. Ensembles were ripe for the picking with bustier tops and sweetheart necklines. Pleated tea-length skirts grazed models’ legs, and let’s not forget those high-slit skirts that could take you from a garden party to a nightclub. Next, the collection is evidently fresh and garden-like—it reminds us of old American neighborhood fairs held at large lawns with cotton candy, balloons, and flowers in bloom. Instead of the pastel hues of that era, Windel Mira revitalizes this energy by using bright punchy colors—think vibrant teal, blue floral prints, and carnival-like rainbow stripes. Lastly, what we like about this collection would be its understated luxe vibe. Everyday pieces were tempered with ones that could be worn during more formal events (see the floral bustier top paired with skinny trousers).
One of our favorite outfits from the collection would have to be the bright red sleeveless bustier top with an equally bright rainbow-striped skirt. We think it’s a fun way to sport color and elegance! Another similar look would be the candy-striped top (and matching cover-up) paired with gold shorts for when you’re feeling a little extra.
To conclude, Windel Mira’s PMFF collection for Season 10 gives us a garden variety of fresh pieces perfect for spring that are all flexible for any kind of occasion—just do the cherry-picking yourself.
