“Globalization is the buzz word and almost a synonym for success in the 21st century. It is my determination to ultimately make a name in the international stage and project Philippine expertise and excellence in fashion design overseas.” –Vince Tolentino at the PEFTA 2012 Q&A
Three years ago, at the Preview Emerging talent Awards 2012, we met a talented, goal-oriented, and ambitious Vince Tolentino. Fast forward to 2015, he now has accreditations in technical production backed up with his degree in Fashion Design from the School of Fashion and Arts (he’s also currently pursuing further education in Fashion Marketing & Promotion and Fashion Merchandising &Buying).
And now, after being chosen from hundreds of candidates world-wide, Vince is one of 60 finalists in the running for the coveted Frankfurt Style Award, an established international talent contest for up and comers in fashion and design. To get in, he created an outfit inspired by the sophistication of Maria Clara, the Bahag of the Igorots, and the art works of Vicente Manansala–his interpretation of this year's theme: Pioneering Destiny.
“This piece aims to integrate and support Philippine fabric industry by using our own materials of Piña from the Pineapple Fiber and Recycled Scrap Fabrics. Similarly, I long to do the same as Manansala (developed transparent cubism) where in the delicate tones, shapes, and patterns of ï¬gure and environment are masterfully superimposed.”
Vote here: http://frankfurtstyleaward.shortstack.com so he can qualify for the Public Choice Award (to be given on September 5 at the Fraport-Forum in Frankfurt Airport, Germany)!
Good luck, Vince! We’re rooting for you.
