Despite the New York Times’ The Cut reporting in 2008 that Donatella Versace had no plans to do a lower-priced line for the Swedish brand (she was quoted saying "I respect everyone who does it, but the reason I didn't do it is because I work very hard to put the Versace line in the luxury section. I think to put the Versace line in H&M would confuse the brand"), three years later, she’s singing a different tune and boy are we all thrilled!
In the video, Donatella states that this collaboration is a great way to show the greater market “what Versace has been and what it is now.” She’ll be lifting from “iconic Versace pieces from iconic Versace moments.” So you can expect glamorous styles in leather, prints, color, and special materials but at those wonderful H&M prices.
The collection will be 40 pieces strong for women and 20 for men. (Yes the beau will not mind cashing in on this with you!) According to the press release, selected pieces for home, like cushions and a bedspread, will also be available; a first for any of the brand’s designer collaborations.
The designer is apparently as excited about the collection as the rest of the fashion world. She wore one of the studded leather shifts from her line for H&M to close the luxe label’s Spring 2012 Menswear show last June 20, 2011.
Much like the Lanvin for H&M collection, we’re expecting this one to go quickly seeing as every woman’s Versace dreams can now come true. The limited edition line will be available in select H&M stores worldwide come November 17. Be ready to fly!
P.S. H&M also revealed that “Donatella Versace has also designed a pre-spring collection for H&M which will be exclusively available in countries with H&M on-line sales from 19th January.”
