According to all the cool kids, your sunglasses should barely cover your eyeballs this season. Teeny-tiny shades are officially a thing againjust ask Rihanna, who attended the 70th annual Cannes Film Festival's Okja screening with an ultra-slim white pair by Andy Wolf perched on her nose.

But precisely when did our choice of UV protection start nodding back to the '90s? All fingers point to the guilty party: Demna Gvasalia, mastermind extraordinaire behind Vetements and also current creative director of Balenciaga, sent Matrix-inspired sunglasses down the latter's Fall 2017 runway. One look, and the world was re-hooked.

It may as well be 1996 again, and the street's biggest style stars have absolutely zero problem dealing. Skinny sunnies are fashion's current favorite finishing touch; though nobody seems to care that two positively microscopic tinted lenses might not actually be enough to fend off any sun damage at all, we're jumping in.
