Boyish figures, rejoice! There’s a new solution to getting an hourglass figure and all it involves is flared fabric, the peplum to be exact. Yes, a flared piece of fabric attached at the waist does wonders in creating a more womanly shape be it on jackets, skirts, or dresses.
We’ve been noticing an influx of peplums on international runways since their first sightings on the Fall/Winter 2011 shows, and with them popping up all over again during 2012’s Spring/Summer shows, they show no signs of stopping. Jason Wu’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection featured structured skirt peplums and, on the opposite side of the spectrum, light and airy peplumed jackets that created movement with each step. Vera Wang also featured them heavily during her Spring presentation, showcasing a contrast of white and delicate overskirts versus graphic, neon peplums.
The trend has also reached Philippine shores with designers like Xernan Orticio, Jot Losa and Joel Escober serving us a feast of flounce in their Spring/Summer and Holiday collections.
