Tough Chic

Tough Chic Maja Salvador does white swimsuit couture for the summer.

White swimwear, an open field, and a Harley Davidson bike. What were they trying to imply?

Vince Uy, Preview's Creative Director, wanted the April 2010 cover girl, Maja Salvador, to look chic and soft against the tough and black bike, for the love of irony. The field was inspired by cross-country trips that the Wild HOGs (Harley Owners Group) take.

Liz Uy, Preview's Fashion Editor-at-large, talked about the swimsuits she got for the shoot: Rajo Laurel designed the swimsuit on the cover, which she was attracted to because it's unusual for women to wear long-sleeved swimwear. In her own words, she described it as “fashyown!”

For the other swimsuits in the line-up, Liz tapped young designers to create different renditions of white swimsuits. She mentioned that two-piece swimmies would be a rare sighting for this cover spread, and if any were to make the cut, they'd definitely have to be different.
It was, by the way, the first time for model turned photographer Joan Bitagcol, make-up artist Jay Lozada, and hairstylist Buern Rodriguez to work on a Preview cover. While this is Maja's second cover for the glossy, it's actually her first solo headline for Preview.
