Bag designer Amina Aranaz has been working closely with Rags2Riches Inc., a social business enterprise, for about two years now. Like Rajo Laurel, she is a partner-designer of the organization and churns out new collections as frequently as her eponymous label, albeit in smaller quantities.

Her first offerings were a mix of pretty purses and totes with the upcycled t-shirt fabrics fashioned into rosettes or woven into her signature basket weave. The latest has been christened the Rags2Riches by ARANAZ Mercato bag. It looks like a hat box that’s been prettied up in banig with leather straps and Rags2Riches florettes.

“It’s a stylized picnic and market basket for the young and stylish foodie/mom,” describes Amina who herself falls into the category. It sounds like it's targeted to all the women who’ve become fans of the weekend food markets and open-air shopping centers that have mushroomed in various areas of the city. But really, any savvy shopper can tote this along to forego amassing even more plastic and paper bags.


The bag was first launched at an afternoon tea sponsored by Bounty Fresh Chicken wherein special muses, who also value sustainable living, were awarded with the bucket bag. Meanwhile, the Rags2Riches by ARANAZ Mercato bag will be launched to the public on November 12, 2010 at the Aranaz boutique in Greenbelt 5.
