Tightly Knit Kate Torralba brings back a favorite fabric for summer.

Kate Torralba's line-up for the summer is bright as usual and resort-ready. KT followers will note the return of a familiar knit fabric (Ed's note: Kate used it for collections as early as Summer 2003, when she was still starting out as a designer), this time in sorbet-colored zigzag stripes.

“Some of my clients were asking if I still had the material,” shared Kate. “It was actually difficult to source so we only really made a few pieces for this collection.” The pieces are in fact limited to one-piece per size, per style. “I wouldn't want my girls to be running into each other at a resort wearing the same thing,” she adds.

Sweetheart bandeaus, high-waisted skirts, and swinging mini dresses would fit right in walking down Brazil's beaches. Top marks go to a haltered jumpsuit with wide pantaloon legs. It speaks of island fever in the best possible sense.

The collection bared a lot of skin, mostly exposing the midriff and shoulders, and décolleté. “I was inspired by a project with Nestle Fitnesse earlier this year, wherein a coat dress I made was given as a prize to one of the winners of the weight-loss challenge. It made me think about getting fit for the summer and showing off a great body.”

The designer also decided to forego protocol and not create matching bags for each outfit. “We decided to do it differently this time, since people already always expect a bag to come with a piece,” she explains. One can purchase the limited edition, zigzag knit tote independently from the other clothes in the collection. Ballet flats in the same zigzag fabric will also be available.
