Saying that Anthony Vaccarello's debut collection for YSL was highly anticipated would be an extreme understatement. Because after Hedi Slimane's departure as creative director, the Paris fashion house needed some solid resuscitation to assure its patrons of its future, which turned the pressure on for his successor. But to everyone's relief, Vaccarello put a new spin to the brand aesthetic and is making some real and gorgeous changes.
He begins with marking the comeback of the Y in YSL, reversing Slimane's decision of sticking with Saint Laurent.
And for the clothes, he bulked up his self-introduction as creative director with strong-shouldered pieces and incorporated the shape into minidresses, coats, and jackets alike. It's suspected to be a tribute to the brand's iconic Le Smoking suit.

To sprinkle more of his unique aesthetic to the collection and show off his favor for seduction, the new collection contained a lot of leather minidresses with lace insets. And let's just say that majority of the lace inset dresses would be perfect for the #freethenipple campaign.
Needless to say, Anthony Vaccarello seems to be heading Yves Saint Laurent towards a very rock 'n roll direction. Welcome to the new YSL, ladies and gents!
