Straw is the new black.
These Chic Straw Bags Are Woven By Inmates Straw is the new black.

What’s there to do when you’re doing time? A lot, actually. And for the ladies at one of our local city jails, this means earning an honest living by making something chic for you to lug around. Inspired by a visit to the women's penitentiary, Liza Morales Crespo and Marielle de Leon-Lazaro have decided to teach simple design patterns in order to help the female inmates start anew. With it, Tali was born.

With a strong background in retail, the duo hones the talents of these women in creating one-of-a-kind pieces made from sustainable materials like straw and leather. An array of styles and sizes showcasing bright geometric designs can easily inject a bit of character into a boring outfit. Scroll down to see some of our top picks that would look right in place propped up against all the West Elm furniture you'll soon be hoarding.
