Preview's February 2024 cover puts the spotlight on Gen Z personalities re-writing the it girl rulebook. "We have Siobhan Moylan, Angelina Cruz, Erika Poturnak, Lorin Gutierrez, and Pam Prinster, all stylish and promising in their own right" Editor-in-Chief Marj Ramos-Clemente shares in this month's episode of The Making Of.

Giving subtle nods to pop culture references, Marj reveals that Easter eggs from iconic girlhood titles such as Mean Girls, Gossip Girl, and Clueless were sprinkled all throughout the layouts. "We didn't attempt to recreate them exactly, in the same way that our girls have also been embracing their own narratives and paving their own paths," she explains.

Creative Director Bacs Arcebal expounds on this further, breaking down each layout and sharing the inspiration behind it. For instance, Versace editorials and works by Richard Avedon were referenced in elevating barkada pictures typically shot in photo studios.

Bacs also recounts how each layout was meticulously planned: from the girls' blocking to how they interacted with the set designed by Princess Barretto, to the lighting and how the clothes worked in each scene. "I think BJ Pascual really did a good job achieving what we had in mind," they note, pointing out how every detail came together in the photos.

Donning pieces from designer brands like Gucci, Fendi, Max Mara, Self-Portrait, Thom Browne, Victoria Beckham, Escada, The Eight, and local go-to's Chris Nick, Rajo Laurel, and Donna Lim, the fashion direction was inspired by your proverbial queen bee. Pieces from The Editor's Market, COS, Charles and Keith, H&M, and Suki Jewelry then completed their looks.

For beauty, Muriel Vega Perez and his glam team used the latest releases from Kiko Milano to make sure that the cover stars looked every bit as radiant as they were on the inside.

After all, as Lifestyle Editor and cover story writer Kat Cabral recounts, "The definition of the it girl is not set in stone. But for these Gen Zs, at least, it's all about being authentic."
