Last year, we celebrated her 50th birthday. This year we’re celebrating the launch of 12 new versions of Barbie clad in the timeless fashion staple, the little black dress.
Together with Stylebible.ph and the Young Designers Guild (YDG), the Barbie Basics dolls made their Philippine debut with a party that hosted fans both young and old. Little girls were asked to wear little pink dresses and big girls came in little black numbers. Little girls got to play in tents filled with dolls and their houses and things whilst dining on marshmallows and chocolate. Big girls got to enjoy fruit smoothies while ogling the exhibit of couture clad dolls and rare collectibles.
The highlight in the center of the room was the glass case containing the twelve Barbie Basics dolls wearing one-of-a-kind black dresses designed by members of the Young Designers Guild. Four stylish women—Juana Manahan, Nicole Jacinto, Mai Kaufman, and Agnes Muñoz were lucky enough to win four of the YDG dolls while the night’s Style Star, Loralee Soong, and the Lady in the Best LBD, Ann Jacobe, each took home a Barbie Basics doll.
Each of the Barbie Basics dolls has her own distinct features—hair color and cut, skin tone, and even eye shapes and hues—and a corresponding LBD. The fun comes in styling the outfit with the help of special accessories kits that contain items like scarves, purses, shoes, and jewelry.
