This year marked another milestone for Matthieu Blazy at Chanel. After his debut collection last October, the French-Belgian designer had less than two months before his next show—his first Métiers d'Art collection.
Unique to Chanel, the Métiers d'Art is an annual showcase that serves as a declaration of love to all the artisans who work on the collections every year. For his inaugural display, Matthieu chose the city of New York. Interestingly, it has been six years since a Chanel show was staged in The Big Apple.
Where in New York, you might ask? Well, Matthieu went underground, where 81 looks walked the abandoned 168 Bowery subway station. After all, the subway knows no hierarchy; it is where people from all walks of life interact. It is quintessentially New York.

The collection opened with Bhavitha Mandava, who walked down the subway station. Immediately after, a train arrived, carrying all the remaining models. Mimicking a normal evening in the subway, the show was a triumph. It was a parade of women getting from point A to B. It was a celebration of commuting in style.
Ahead, we list down some of our favorite looks from the show.
While the opening look might seem like the usual casual jeans look elevated with accessories, the pants are actually made of silk. They have been embroidered to imitate denim.

Is print on print still a no-no at this point? If so, then this look makes a case against it. Strategically color-blocked, the pieces complement each other because one print is smaller compared to the other and the flower appliques tie them together.

Nothing screams tourist chic more than an I <3 NY t-shirt. Elevated with a tweed coat and skirt, this look is a fun take on a classic Chanel ensemble.

This stunning off-shoulder number moved so beautifully on the runway. Its two-toned color adds contrast and dimension, while the draping gives it a touch of drama.

It was a pleasant surprise to see animal print make its way in this collection. The volume of the skirt and its fur trimmings are paired down nicely with the black turtleneck.

A standout piece from the entire collection is this skyscaper skirt, which is made more interesting with the layers, cuts, and embellishments.

Matthieu's take on Clark Kent is seen in this fun androgynous look. We love the undoneness of the tie and how the different lines make the eye dance.

Of course, a collection that is a nod to the chic commuter wouldn't be complete without a fur coat over a sequined dress. It is the perfect party girl look—one that we have seen at night, on our way home.
