Designer Louis Claparols and Celine Gabriel-Lim have been friends for a long time, so it's no surprise that she asked him to design the gown for her wedding to her husband, Matthew Lim.
While Louis is known for his sexy, modern aesthetic and love for geometric paneling and prints, his bridal style is much softer and much more delicate. The gown he designed for Celine is particularly interesting because it typifies his bridal aesthetic while simultaneously heeding Celine's request to incorporate elements of her mother's wedding dress and her grandma's embroidered jacket. The resulting gown is a beautiful representation of Louis's style, and a testament to his skill of being able to fuse the old and the new.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR DESIGN PHILOSOPHY AS A BRIDAL DESIGNER?
I think it leans more on the feminine and romantic side. I love to use mesh and tulle because it's a very romantic fabric—very fairy-like. I also like playing around with lace.
WHAT IS THE SIGNATURE FLAIR THAT IMMEDIATELY CHARACTERIZES A WEDDING GOWN DONE BY LOUIS CLAPAROLS?
I like poufy mesh skirts which give the gowns a very sweet, girly, romantic, vintage-y look. Lace and embellishment are also two elements of my bridal designs.
HOW EARLY BEFORE THE WEDDING DO CLIENTS HAVE TO APPROACH YOU?
Usually, 6 months before.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU HAVE TO MEET/TALK TO CLIENTS REGARDING THEIR WEDDING GOWN DESIGNS?
Once the bride and I come to an agreement, I give her a contract which shows the dates that she needs to come in for fittings.
HOW OFTEN DOES A CLIENT HAVE TO VISIT YOU FOR FITTINGS?
I usually require 3 fitting schedules.
ON AVERAGE, HOW LONG DOES A WEDDING GOWN TAKE TO MAKE?
It really depends on the design.
WHAT ARE THE PRICE POINTS OF A LOUIS CLAPAROLS WEDDING GOWN, AS WELL AS THE PIECES FOR THE BRIDAL ENTOURAGE? DO YOU DO THE GROOM'S AND GROOMSMEN'S ENSEMBLES AS WELL?
For a basic bridal gown with no frills, my minimum is P50,000 to P60,000.
HOW WAS IT LIKE WORKING WITH CELINE? HOW DID SHE APPROACH YOU TO BE HER BRIDAL GOWN DESIGNER?
I have been working with Celine for the longest time. Ever since I started as a designer she was one of my early clients. She was actually the one who brought me into the fashion industry. She is very easy to work with, and we have been talking about her wedding for years already, and we were just waiting for the groom to propose. Haha!
PLEASE DESCRIBE THE GOWN THAT YOU DESIGNED FOR HER.
Her gown is made of piña-seda and lots of mesh. The idea was to mix the old and the new. Most of the elements from her gown were chopped off her mother's wedding dress and her grandmother's embroidered top—the embroidery on the bust of her gown were cut from the sleeves of her mom's wedding dress.
