Everyone knows when it comes to Hollywood’s most glamorous night a.k.a the Oscars, the competition on the red carpet is just as intense as the battle for acting awards. For the 88th Academy Awards, we feel like majority of our favorite ladies had frocks that needed some minor tweaking to get on our Best Dressed list. But there were still a handful who truly impressed. One thing they all had in common? They all opted for light-colored ensembles that looked fresh against the fiery carpet. Take a look.

Cate is nominated for a best actress award but she’s already winning our hearts with this ensemble. Always one to stun on the red carpet, Cate bloomed in her seafoam green Armani Privé frock. The countless Swarovski embellished floral appliques could have easily crossed over to prom territory, but the cap sleeves and deep V neckline made it age-appropriate without being costumey. Topping off couture look with her short new ‘do and Tiffany & Co. jewelry made her a shoo-in for the honor roll.

After seeing her in this look, Daisy is no longer just that girl from Star Wars to us. She was a vision in Chanel from head to ankle (her shoes were custom Louboutin). From her Chanel Haute Couture backless dress to her clutch and jewelry, the sparkles did her right. It’s nice to see a shorter hem (that isn't a mullet skirt) on the red carpet for a change, and we especially loved the intricate silver embellishments set against a pale gray backdrop. Fun fact: Her ‘do was done this way to pay tribute to her Star Wars character.

We always appreciate it when Lady Gaga decides to leave all her Lady Gaga-ness in her room and opt for something completely off-character for a change. For this year’s Academy Awards, she surprised everyone by looking clean in all-white. Designed by her stylist and best friend, Brandon Maxwell, the dress was one of five custom pieces he made for her. The choice of trousers also strategically hid her 10-inch Brian Atwood sky high steppers to give the petite singer extra height.

Although there’s not much we can say about her beauty look as we’ve seen her signature dark lip and sleek double braided bun a couple of times already, it did add that signature Rooney edge to her pristine Givenchy Haute Couture dress. On point and always bringing excitement to the red carpet, she shows us that white and embroidered can look sexy without being bridal. Although on second thought, this would so look lovely for a wedding!
