Would You Buy Telfar's “Plastic" Bags?

Many might know Telfar for its perpetually sold-out Shopping Bags. Since the boxy leather tote went viral in 2023, the silhouette has become a must-have for those looking to invest in a mid-range designer piece.

Yet beyond its widely popular tote, the New York label has carved a name for its subversive approach to everyday wear. Founded in 2005 by Liberian-American designer Telfar Clemens, the brand has consistently challenged traditional ideas of luxury and instead pushed for accessible, genderless fashion inspired by the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple's street life.

That philosophy takes shape once again in its newest release: the “Plastic Bag.” While referencing the disposable bags spotted across New York sidewalks, Telfar’s version is far from single-use—and interestingly, not actually made of plastic.

Telfar Introduces the “Plastic Bag”

Inspired by the “staple New York sidewalk silhouette,” the TELFAR Plastic Bag is crafted entirely from nylon and finished with ruched elastic handles, tonal stitching, and a roomy interior. Inside, it has two deep side compartments, along with a zip pocket, slit pocket, and discreet stash pocket. The carryall is enough to fit all your essentials.

The collection includes 11 prints inspired by New York’s ubiquitous plastic carriers, each available in two sizes. The Medium size measures 11.81” x 11.81” x 5.91” with a 12.60” handle drop, while the Large comes in at 17.72” x 17.72” x 7.87” with a 13.78” handle drop.

Prices are set at $148 (around P8,460) for the Medium and $195 (around P11,147) for the Large. The collection is sold exclusively through Telfar’s website and its flagship store in New York City.
