It's no secret that while fashion exudes creativity, beauty, and confidence, it also unfortunately brings about an unhealthy amount of excess waste into the environment. In a bid to continue our search for sustainable, ethical, and eco-friendly pieces that go against the current fast fashion surplus, we round up five brands that will allow us to make the environmentally-conscious shopping choice whether we're scouring the interwebs for clothes, bags, swimsuits, or accessories.

1. Rags2Riches

This fashion and design house, best known for their fun and vibrant woven bags, collaborates with local artisans to creat stylish and sustainable accessories. Their products are made from overstock cloth and indigenous fabric sourced from the communities they work with as they hope to refrain from contributing to the excess waste produced by the fashion industry every year. A notable inspiring  aspect of the Rags2Riches brand goes beyond their eco-friendly bags, as they work to empower their artisans as well. With an inclusive board, R2R makes sure that their workers are well represented and have positions in their core management team, and are painted as important arms in their brand's narrative.

2. Body Party

For sustainable and responsibly sourced high-performance swimwear, look no further than Body Party. Most known for their artfully chic swimsuits, this swimwear brand produces their pieces from ECONYL yarn made all the way from Italy. Their website explains that the fabric they use for their suits is made from "recovering nylon waste, such as fishing nets, fabric scraps and old carpets, and turning [them] into virgin quality nylon yarn for the fashion industry." Body Party had previously collaborated with actress Solenn Heusaff for an art-based and nature-inspired collection made with 100% recycled fishing nets and water bottles.

3. Kaayo

Kaayo's main purpose is to elevate the lives of the indigenous tribes in Mindanao through a sustainable livelihood that also brings to the forefront the beauty of the island's culture. Focusing on modernized Mindanao-inspired clothing and accessories, Kaayo's range of products are made from indigenous fabrics hand-weaved and embroidered by the tribe's people themselves. Having originally started as a means to provide a good and honest job to a T'boli mother-and-daughter tandem, Kaayo has since then grown into a label with artisans from the Bagobo and T'boli tribes, all the while heralding their native fabrics into the modern world of fashion and keeping their heritage alive. Scroll through the post below to see some of their intricately patterned pieces.
