It’s a language spoken so fluently by two kindred spirits, yet incomprehensible to the world around them.
In the case of Sunshine and Angelina Cruz, this connection reveals itself in the cadence of how they navigate life—and yes, in their approach to style, too. Sunshine, a seasoned actress drawn to timeless silhouettes and neutral palettes; Angelina, a 23-year-old discovering her penchant for the classics.

In conversation, the mother-daughter duo’s synergy is palpable and almost magnetic. There is a kindred alignment in how they carry themselves, their preference for simplicity, and their affection for pieces that stand the test of time. Twinning isn't about merely wearing identical outfits in their shared world. Instead, it represents the synchronicity that emerges when two wardrobes echo the same spirit.
Their relationship is unmistakably mother-and-daughter, yet layered with the intimacy of a long-standing friendship, shaped by years of sharing closets, offering honest opinions, and trading style wisdom both ways. It’s the kind of connection that develops only through years of growing, learning, and dressing together.
In this light and intimate conversation, Sunshine and Angelina talk to Preview about growing up around fashion, how their styles have evolved and overlapped, and why the best outfits are sometimes the ones you borrow—from someone who just gets you.

How would you describe each of your personal styles?
Angelina: I feel like it's kind of similar in terms of how simple it can be and how timeless we want our outfits to be. We don't want it to be super out there.

Back when Angelina was much younger, how did you dress her up?
Sunshine: Anything comfortable and colorful. Usually, silang Tres Marias, my three girls, laging pare-pareho sila ng outfits. But more on something comfortable, talaga, and playful [like] floral leggings, basic t-shirts, pastel colors kasi I want them to be super girly.
Angelina: I get that it’d be cute with my two younger sisters because their age gap is just a year— [but] mine is three, four years, so I looked so goofy! But looking back, it was very cute. The photos were so nice. And honestly, looking back, I love the outfits. It was very Y2K.
Growing up, what did you admire most about your mom's style?
Angelina: Growing up, something that I did admire for my mom's fashion and style was how timeless it was. She really made it a thing to keep her outfits simple and I think that's what drew me to like her outfits the most. She wasn't she wasn't the type to follow trends as much; she just dresses and wears whatever she feels comfortable with, and I feel like that kind of became my style as well.

As she grew older, how do you think Angelina's style has evolved?
Sunshine: Oh, she's really good. Actually, ngayon nga kapag ako yung may mga concerns with my outfit, I ask her, “What do you think, Angelina? Does this look good on me?” kasi talagang she has a really good taste when it comes to style [and] outfits. Magaling talaga siya.

How would you say your own style has evolved through the years?
Sunshine: I used to be very experimental.
Angelina: I agree. You used to love print a lot, [and] neon colors. You're into that before.
Sunshine: [And] ruffles. They hate it. Every time I wear something like that, the kids react, “Mom, what is that?” especially Sam and Chesca.
Angelina: If it's too loud, I'd say something. But if, let's say, it's floral but it's tasteful [then] I would [still] like it. I just don't like it if it's too loud and you're wearing too much monogram print na, I don't like that.
Sunshine: She would always tell me, “That's not your style,” and I trust her.

What is something that she wears that you wouldn't wear?
Sunshine: Yung parang apron na mga tops.
Angelina: Apron?! Oh, you mean the backless?
Sunshine: Yes! I can't because my frame is very different from hers, but it looks good on her. But it's something I can never wear. Maybe when I was a teenager, fine, but now, no more na. I'm 47, and I just want it classic. And yung color, I like it to be plain [or neutral] na lang.

What are the best beauty and fashion tips you've learned from one another?
Angelina: The best I've learned from my mom was, when in doubt, wear something simple. What did you learn from me?
Sunshine: What did I learn from you? Ano nga ba natutunan ko sa'yo, anak? [I learned] to use SPF most of the time. Siya talaga, she can't leave the house without SPF. Ako, sometimes, I don't even wear SPF.
Angelina: [And] I always tell you to drink your water.

What parts of yourself do you see in Angelina?
Sunshine: Well, some of our mannerisms are the same. And when it comes to being in love with beautiful shoes, bags, we're the same also.
Do you like to borrow each other's stuff?
Angelina: I wish I can, but she's so madamot.
Sunshine: Excuse me? Ngayon ngang photoshoot natin, you were borrowing my shoes.
Angelina: Yeah, when it comes to bags, you're madamot. But when it comes to shoes, you're very generous.
Sunshine: Thank you. Well, they're mine.
Angelina: I'd love to borrow her bags in time.
Sunshine: In time. Let mommy enjoy it more.

What are your favorite hand-me-downs from your mom?
Angelina: My favorite hand-me-down is this vintage nylon Prada bag that she gave me, and it's a perfect size—it's a baguette bag. I use it up to this day, I love it so much. It's my favorite go-to bag.
Is there a specific reason why you handed it down to her?
Angelina: Oh, there's a whole story to it. First, you gave it to Chesca.
Sunshine: Yeah, you fought her.
Angelina: And then you gave her a Ferragamo bag in exchange that she gives me the nylon Prada bag because I really wanted it, and so she did. [The Prada bag] just spoke to me. I saw myself wearing it a lot, and to this day, I do wear it a lot. So I don't regret fighting for it.
Sunshine: And it's funny because it was given to me by my friend Karla Estrada, but I never used it.
Angelina: I never knew that.
Sunshine: Yeah, so I gave it to them. Eh nag-away sila…
Angelina: We didn’t fight, it was [just] an argument.

What's your favorite thing about each other's style?
Sunshine: Everything about her style. She carries herself very well. I love her taste. That's why I go to her kapag my stylist is not available. I would knock sa door niya, “Angelina, open!” And then I'd show her my clothes. “Is this okay? How about my shoes? How about my bag?” I really love her taste, that's why I always ask her for advice.
Angelina: I only know what I know mostly because of what I learned from her. It's simple yet so timeless and classic, and that's why my taste is like this to this day—because of my mom.
Sunshine: Oh, that's so sweet, but you can’t still borrow my bag. Only my shoes.
Angelina: Darn it… I tried.
